1. Check for Exterior Damage
Walk around the used car you’re interested in to see if there are any scratches, dents or rust spots. Make note of any blemishes that may decrease the value of the vehicle.
2. Inspect the Interior
Does the car have floor mats? Are there any stains in the interior? Look around the cabin to check if there’s any damage to the seats, dashboard or steering wheel.
3. Check the Odometer
Look at the odometer on the dashboard when you check out used cars for sale near Bloomington, IN, at a Hubler dealership. It’s important to consider how long you’d like to drive this car, as the vehicle's mileage is often an indicator of how much wear and tear it has had.
4. Look for Fluid Leaks
Look under the car to see if any fluids such as transmission fluid, brake fluid or motor oil are leaking from the undercarriage or hood.
5. Inspect Tire Wear
Look at the tire treads to see how worn the current tires are. To check, put a penny into the tire tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down. The tires need to be replaced if all of Lincoln’s head is visible.
6. Look Under the Hood
Pop open the hood and take a look at the powertrain and other components. Make sure there aren’t any mouse nests, leaves or debris that could inhibit the performance of your used car.
7. Listen to the Engine
Start the car so you can listen to and check out the engine with the hood open.
8. Take a Test-Drive
When you take the car you like for a test-drive, there are several things to focus on. Test the accuracy of the steering, brake function and acceleration. Make sure you listen for any strange sounds coming from the engine while you’re on the road. Don’t forget to try out the radio or infotainment system and the climate control system to ensure everything is in working order.
9. Verify Value
Look up the Kelley Blue Book value of the make, model and trim you want to buy. This will help you determine a fair general price range.
10. Ask about Finance Specials
Ask our sales team about our current used car finance offers and any Hubler Q-Certified financing specials we currently have.
